ABOUT US
During the early years of the 20th century, the game of tennis was confined only for the Elite class who played during the weekends at heritage clubs such as the Calcutta South Club, Shyambazar Club, Cossipore Club, Calcutta Gymkhana Club and others.The State was proud to have produced players of the caliber of Dilip Bose, Sumant Mishra, S.L.R Sawhney, Jaidip Mukerjea, Premjit Lal, Akhtar Ali, Zeeshan Ali, Leander Paes and Syed Fazaluddin who have done the nation proud.
Bengal Tennis Association was registered way back in 1971. In fact the All India Tennis Association was registered in Calcutta in 1940 and the headquarters of Indian Tennis was in Bengal.
In the 90’s, Mr. Manik Goswami, the then Secretary of BTA dreamt of building a complex with all the modern facilities with the help and support of Mr. Mumtaz Ahmed, Mr. B.K Saha and subsequently Mr. Hironmoy Chatterjee .Mr. Goswami’s dream came true. A beautiful Tennis Complex, which is presently humming with activity. 400 Kids are trying to learn this beautiful game of Tennis, with many more in the waiting list.
